April is Alcohol Awareness Month As many of you may already know, April is Alcohol Awareness Month. No, this is not a call to become more familiar with different types of beverages, but instead is an opportunity to become more informed to the adverse effects of alcohol abuse.
To recognize the serious problem of alcohol abuse, April is designated "Alcohol Awareness Month." April 8 marks the annual observance of National Alcohol Screening Day (NASD). At locations across the United States, people can be screened—anonymously—to see if their drinking habits may be risky.
Leanne, the chemical dependency case manager I spoke with wants you to know that, "the screening is kind of a big deal, and you'll be asked many questions about your history with using alcohol and other drugs, but it's worth it if you're serious about your chemical dependency issues."
Participants who come into a screening site on April 8 will have the opportunity to view an educational presentation and pick up educational materials, such as a questionnaire that screens for risky drinking and dependence. People can also meet one-on-one with a health professional to discuss any concerns. The screenings are free and anonymous.
Last year, more than 203,000 people participated in NASD activities at more than 5,400 screening sites nationwide—the largest NASD yet!
You can contact Rule Twenty-Five (Chemical Health Unit) at 651.266.4008 to schedule your own free screening, which will take about an hour.
Dispelling Rumors Brandon and Louis asked me about the Summit building being torn down, and CVA building a large complex at the Western and Selby intersections. I just want to inform everyone that there are no immediate plans, and no future plans, to develop anything in these locations other than your young, eager minds. Every college has its eyes on the future, and any plans for expansion will involve members of every part of the CVA community, and this includes the opinions of our students when and if we decide to move in that direction.
Minnesota Timberwolves Tickets The Office for Student Life has 30 tickets for the Minnesota Timberwolves game on Wednesday, April 16. The bus leaves at 6:30 p.m. sharp, and we'll be back before 10 p.m. You can sign up near the mailboxes in Summit. The event is free, and we all know the Wolves need a lot of support in these dark days since the departure of KG. Let's fill the bus!

Peer Mentor Interviews A lot of people have been asking about interviewing for peer mentor positions, and I'm happy to announce that the current peer mentors and I will begin interviewing next week and throughout the remainder of the academic year. In order to apply you need to submit a resume to the Student Life Office.
Quote of the Week
